Quilca-Chili basin and Salinas and Aguada Blanca Natural Reserve: MERESE implementation
Conservation and restoration of ecosystems in the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve
An innovative and replicable governance model at the regional scale
- The implementation of the MERESE-H in the RNSAB in the Quilca-Chili basin, Arequipa, serves as a model of good governance and collaboration between public and private actors for territorial management and biodiversity conservation for water security.
- The collaboration between SEDAPAR and SERNANP-RNSAB becomes a national reference for the execution of MERESE mechanisms and funds, with significant potential to replicate this experience in other regions where water sources are located in Protected Areas.
- In Peru, the water-related interests of 12 (out of 50) water and sanitation service providers coincide with the territory of protected natural areas. This demonstrates the potential to scale this work nationally, as well as to replicate it across South America.
