Life in a Pandemic: Finding New Methods to Get Work Done.
If you are a student right now, this year of Covid-19 has impacted life in many ways. One main factor, aside from class being virtual, is having the spaces we used to study in be removed from our daily routine. One of the most difficult things for me to adapt to during this year was figuring out where I would now be studying and working on assignments. While “home” work is inevitable as a student, I chose to use the spacious and comfortable places on CSUSM's campus to get the majority of my school work done. This adjustment to virtual learning is one we were not expecting, and working from home for many is difficult. Whether it be difficulty finding a quiet space, lack of access to Wi-Fi, or the inability to focus at home, each student has dealt with different dilemmas.
However, there is some hope for the busy student. Now that coffee shops are partially open to the public, some have made space available for working and provide access to Wi-Fi. While our CSUSM campus is cozily tucked away in the picturesque San Marcos hills, the coast is only a short drive away. Between the abundance of coffee shops and refreshing ocean air, a coffee on the coast may be just what a sharp student mind needs to recharge and find focus.
This digital project is a useful guide to finding some of the best coffee shops surrounding coast highway 101 from the Encinitas area up to Oceanside. Because these difficult times are also impacting small businesses, I chose to include only small-chain and family-run coffee shops. So, whether it is to set up for a day’s study session or to catch up on online assignments, find a cozy coffee shop to call your own along our north county coastline.
- All coffee shops listed have free Wi-Fi available for customers.
- All have limited outside and/or inside seating available.
- All serve drinks and food for Dine-In/Take-Out.
- Some locations are more for the early riser, and are open for morning to afternoon hours. But, for the night owls, many are open late (8pm-10pm).
