Twelve Mile Creek Expansion
Expansion of the Water Reclamation Facility will increase wastewater treatment capacity
The Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) at Twelve Mile Creek is currently rated at a capacity of 7.5 million gallons per day (MGD). Expansion of the facility to 9 MGD will increase the treatment capacity of the plant to meet anticipated wastewater flows in the short term. Future expansion to 12 MGD will meet the projected longer-term wastewater treatment needs for Union County.
Our permit has been approved up to 12 MGD based on future upgrades. The observed average daily flow to the facility in 2021 has exceeded 6 MGD, which is more than 80% of the facility’s current rated capacity. In order to continue to meet the wastewater treatment needs of county residents and businesses, Union County Water is starting the process of expanding the facility to 9 MGD.
