Today is Zero Emissions Day. One way Iowans are working to reduce emissions is moving to renewable energy sources such as wind and solar for making electricity. One of Iowa's largest solar installments is in southeast Iowa, in Louisa County, near Wapello, Iowa.
These satellite images show the City of Wapello and the solar installment in 2013 (Landsat 8) before construction and in 2022 (Landsat 9) after the construction of the 100 megawatt solar farm southeast of the city. The green area indicated plants and trees while pink areas indicate bare soil, sand, concrete, and urban areas. The navy blue areas show water. Notice the changes in the sand bars in the river.
