Welcome to the super sampling sign up site! This site is organized by sections, which can all be accessed directly using the navigation menu above. The super sampling sign up site is exclusively dedicated to technology, permits, and signing up to sample a geographic area!
Scroll-Scroll Instructions
Here you'll find a scrolling step-by-step instructional guide on how to use the features in the ArcGIS maps, select a permitted area, and factors to consider when signing up to sample a given area. If you start scrolling (and keep scrolling), you'll move through the following four images with instructional guidance:

Using Map & Search Features
OBSERVE: Look at the map on the left and note the five numbered red boxes. The following will provide instructional guidance on how to use these five highlighted features:
- Utilize this search bar to filter the permit list by
- State
- Species
- Land Area Name
- Review to browse and/or select an area to sample from the permitted areas
- Toggle through the interactive map to search for permitted areas
- Click the expand icon to open the map in a new window
- Click the refresh icon to refresh the map back to its homepage

Using the Permitted Area Pop-up Box: Part 1 of 3
Selecting & Reading a Permitted Area
OBSERVE: Look at the map on the left and notice that a permitted area has been selected from the list. Once selected, a pop-up box appears with important information.
Note that the pop-up box has a scrolling bar on the right side that leads to additional important information, which is detailed here and in the following slides.
By scrolling inside the permit pop-up boxes, the following information is found:
- Permit Details:
- Approved status of permit
- Species approved for sampling
- Permitted sampling criteria (# trees)
- Permitted sampling dates
- Whether tree core sampling is permitted

Using the Permitted Area Pop-up Box: Part 2 of 3
Permit Link & Sign up Summary
OBSERVE: Look at the map on the left and see that the this is an additional view of the same pop-up box from above. Note that two areas are highlighted with a red box and numbers for instructional purposes.
By scrolling inside the permit pop-up boxes, the following information is found:
- Contact name and email of person responsible for issuing sampling permit
- Red Box 1
- View and download the permit for this area
- Red Box 2
- View the summary of existing volunteers who've signed up and/or sampled on this parcel
A WORD OF CAUTION:
- Be sure to read the Sign Up Summary, highlighted in Box 2, because we cannot exceed the maximum number of trees approved for the permit.
- If there are already enough samples collected, please do not sign up to sample

Signing up to a Specific Geographic Area
OBSERVE: Look at the map on the left and see that the this is an additional view of the same pop-up box from above.
Note how one area is highlighted with a red box for instructional purposes. By scrolling to the bottom of the permit pop-up boxes, the following information is found:
- Red Box
- The Sign up Form is linked and can be accessed here. window.
- TWOFER (two for one): If the area is also permitted for ash tree sampling, and you've completed the training to sample both species, you can also click the sign up form for ash trees here.

Sampling is allowed on private property if the trees are at least 500 meters/yards from a building and are a naturally occurring stand (i.e. not part of landscaping). If you are planning to sample on private property, you can find the form here .
