Introduction
In 2003, a small portion of Sebastian's waterfront area was designated by the National Register of Historic Places as the "Old Town Sebastian Historic District". While only encompassing a small area bounded by Washington Street on the south, Main Street on the north, Indian River Drive on the east, and the FEC Railroad tracks on the west, this area is only a small sampling of the historic structures and monuments one can find throughout the city's waterfront district.
With local settlement beginning in the late 19th century, followed by the city's establishment in 1924, glimpses of the past abound throughout the waterfront district. Throughout this area you'll find a number of early 20th century buildings still standing, in addition to tributes to the past via monuments and artwork reflecting on the early days of Sebastian.
In this tour, see the buildings that have withstood the test of time throughout Sebastian, built by the earliest settlers to the area who shaped the city’s heritage as a coastal fishing community. Also learn more about the monuments and artwork that expands upon our local culture and reflects upon our past. Enjoy these sites virtually on your computer or mobile device, or use this map as a guide the next time you walk or explore Sebastian’s Historic Waterfront District.
