Flooding expected to worsen
Nuisance flooding impacts increase with sea level rise.
High tide flooding will have most impact on six states across the U.S. over the next ten years. Most vulnerable areas include the Gulf States of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi followed by the Atlantic States of New Jersey, Virginia and New York. These states contain the top ten locations in the US that will be most impacted by flooding.
The proof lies in the probabilities provided by NOAA flooding predictions. Although some cities will experience more flooding days overall, others may be in store for adapting to more abrupt changes with significant increases in overall frequency.
The High Tide Flooding App , built by Esri , extends NOAA’s flooding predictions by allowing quick visualization and understanding of U.S. high tide flooding probability scenarios through 2100. It leverages map layers available in ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World , which can be integrated into your own mapping and analysis projects.
This data was sourced from NOAA Technical Report NOS CO-OPS 086: Patterns and Projections of High Tide Flooding Along the U.S. Coastline Using a Common Impact Threshold and aggregated for visualization and sharing in ArcGIS Pro . This application was built with the ArcGIS API for JavaScript .
