Back in Time
The establishment of Fiji Institute of Technology (FIT) to meet the rising demand for technical and vocational education in Fiji dates back to the early 1960s. In its early years, it went under the name "Fiji Institute of Applied Science" and was known for educating students in practical knowledge and skills.
The institute had significant development and diversification in the 1980s and 1990s. It broadened the scope of its educational offerings to incorporate a number of technical and vocational fields, such as engineering, information technology, business studies, hospitality, and agriculture. The organization was renamed the "Fiji Institute of Technology" to reflect its expanded purpose in 1963.

As of today
The Fiji National University (FNU) was created in 2010 as a result of FIT's merger with a number of other institutions as part of a larger initiative to reform and streamline Fiji's higher education system. The goal of this merger was to consolidate resources, eliminate wasteful activity, and raise education standards across the board in Fiji.
Through its graduates, programs, and courses, FNU has left a lasting legacy that continues to advance Fiji. In order for people to succeed in a variety of technical and vocational sectors, they required to be equipped with the information and practical skills necessary by the institution.
