Florida Cabinet Makes Investment in Land Conservation

Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet Invest Nearly $11 Million to Conserve 3,000 Acres in the Florida Wildlife Corridor

Florida is at the forefront of the nation’s land protection efforts and continues to be a model for other land acquisition programs across the country. During the December 2023 Cabinet Meeting, Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet approved two conservation easement acquisitions totaling 2,956 acres for an investment of $10,829,000. Both acquisitions are located within the Florida Wildlife Corridor, a designated network of connected lands that create crucial linkages for wildlife habitat.

Florida Forever is a willing seller land conservation program with negotiations based on a landowner’s intent in selling fee simple or conservation easements. Conservation easements help retain working lands and farms in family ownership and limit future development with owner-managed natural attributes into perpetuity.

Since 2019, Florida has committed more than $1.25 billion to the Florida Forever Program and acquired nearly 220,000 acres for conservation, 90% of which are within the Florida Wildlife Corridor.
