Project Info

The City of Huntington Beach and professionals at David Volz Design Landscape Architects, Inc. (DVD) will work with the community to reimagine this great greenspace and develop a concept plan that updates park amenities and encourages more use.

Carr Park, located in the northwest part of the city, offers green space and a lake in need of renovation. To reimagine this unique space DVD will conduct outreach programs, gather comments and preferences, and consider the renewal or removal of existing infrastructure in the planning process to ultimately design a fun, active, and memorable park that serves the community.

Carr Park Revitalization Project Updates

May 2024

The City of Huntington Beach and professionals at David Volz Design Landscape Architects, Inc. (DVD) continue to work with members of the community and other stakeholder groups to reimagine this great greenspace and develop a concept plan that updates park amenities and restores a healthy environment.

Since the community meeting on July 20, 2023, staff and DVD have continued evaluating the habitat landscape of the park in coordination with other agencies, including the Department of Fish & Wildlife.  Habitat and wildlife studies were conducted and are now complete. The reports are posted on the website under the “Additional Documents” tab. Pertinent information found in the reports are aligned with the proposed conceptual plan.

The plan will be presented to the Community & Library Services Commission for their consideration. The Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. If the Commission moves a recommendation forward, the City Council will then be presented with a recommended plan for consideration at a future City Council meeting.

The community will have an opportunity to contribute additional feedback at the Commission and City Council meetings in the form of public comment at the beginning of each meeting. For more information on how to participate in public comment, please review the front page of the meeting agendas, which is available to the public via a public notification prior to the meetings.  Please make sure your email has been added to the distribution list for this project to receive additional updates on upcoming meetings and agenda postings.  The link for the distribution list can be found at the top of this webpage.

January 2024

The City of Huntington Beach and professionals at David Volz Design Landscape Architects, Inc. (DVD) continue to work with members of the community and other stakeholder groups to reimagine this great greenspace and develop a concept plan that updates park amenities and encourages more use.

Since the community meeting on July 20, staff and DVD have continued evaluating the habitat landscape of the park and coordination with other agencies, including the Department of Fish & Wildlife.  Next steps of the conceptual plan include additional studies of the park wildlife, which are tentatively scheduled for this winter and may continue into the spring depending on preliminary findings. Once all studies are complete and the final findings are incorporated into the conceptual plan, a presentation will be given to the Community & Library Services Commission for their determination of which plan(s) will be recommended to the City Council. The Council will then be presented with a recommended plan for consideration.

The community will have an opportunity to contribute additional comment at the Commission and City Council meetings in form of public comment at the beginning of each meetings. A public notification will go out the community once the meeting dates are set.
