Project Overview
This interactive map details all of the AFI fence projects to date. The lines indicate fence locations and the colors differentiate between fence removals (Red) and fence modifications (Green). It is important to note that this map should only be used for educational purposes as the fence location and shape are generalized and will have a margin of error.
YU Bench 2024
AFI modified over 2.2 miles of barbed wire fence on BLM land for National Public Lands Day 2024. 33 volunteers raised bottom wires and dropped tops wires to allow for pronghorn and mule deer passage.
YU Bench 2022
Fifty volunteers modified three miles of fence to benefit pronghorn migrations. Over 960 pounds of material was recycled!
Sage Creek Ranch
21 volunteers, including 12 high students from Cody High School helped to modify a half mile of fence on a private parcel in a pronghorn sensitive area.
Paint Creek
AFI removed over 1.5 miles of fencing with the help of 20 volunteers. This project was able to recycle 1600 pounds of fence material and benefits elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep.
Pasewark
Sixteen AFI volunteers removed a half mile of fence from a private parcel on this cold day! This fence removal benefits elk and pronghorn migrations.
Lichtendahl
AFI's first fencing project modified 1 mile of fence with the help of 15 volunteers. Over 1000 pounds of material recycled! This project benefits elk, mule deer, and pronghorn movements.
Logan Mt
AFI's project at Logan Mountain had 12 volunteers modify 0.6 miles of fence along the BLM and Forest Service Boundary. This project aimed to help elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep.
Wall Creek
The Wall Creek fence project removed 2 miles of fence with the help of 13 volunteers. With this fence removed elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep will have an easier time moving through the area.
Green Creek
With the help of 22 volunteers, 1 mile of fence was removed from Green Creek. Over 1500 pounds of fence material was recycled. This project will benefit elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, moose, and even grizzly bears!
Cody Country
The fence removal at the Cody Country Subdivision was led by the community and supported by AFI. Approximately 3.3 miles of fence was removed with the help of 47 volunteers. Over 3261 pounds of fence materials were recycled!
Four Bear
AFI was able to remove 3 miles with the help of over 80 volunteers at the Four Bear project and recycled 4000 pounds of fence material!
Trout Creek
Fence modification along Trout Creek on the North Fork Highway. 40 volunteers tackled 3.2 miles of fence modification to benefit elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep movements.
Bretche Creek
Bretche Creek has been AFI's biggest project to date with over 5.2 miles of fence removed and 1.5 miles of fence modified with only 25 volunteers! Over 5000 pounds of fence material was recycled!
Lower South Fork
Fence Modification along the lower South Fork. With the help of 23 volunteers we were able to modify 1.5 miles of fence! This modification will mainly help mule deer.
Old Mariposa
With 9 volunteers, AFI removed 0.75 miles of fence. This removal will benefit elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, and moose!
