Woodland type: Small sized broadleaved woodlands, hedgerows and hedgerow trees; Area: ≤5ha; Description: Small broadleaved woodlands ≤5ha, occupying a corner of a field, copses, hill-top clumps, farm woodlands or shelter belts, riparian woodlands as well as hedgerows with hedgerow trees. Traditional orchards and wood pasture are also considered under this woodland type. Woodland type: Small-medium sized broadleaved woodlands; Area: 5 to 15ha; Description: Small-medium broadleaved woodlands between 5 and 15ha in area including copses, hill-top clumps, shelterbelt woods or riparian woodlands. They could range in size from a small woodland extending along a riverbank to more extensive woodland wrapping around the lower slopes of a hill, filling a field or capping a small hill. Woodland type: Medium sized broadleaved or mixed woodlands; Area: 15 to 30ha; Description: Medium sized broadleaved or mixed woodlands, between 15 and 30ha in area. These could extend to occupy a more extensive hill slope, plateau or ridge top or valley floor extending over several fields. Woodland type: Large sized broadleaved or mixed woodlands; Area: >30ha; Description: Large woodlands comprising broadleaved, mixed or coniferous species.
