The CVRD Island Corridor Shared Visioning Process

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is in the traditional, unceded territories of the Cowichan Tribes, Penelakut Tribe and the Ditidaht, Pacheedaht, Halalt, Stz'uminus, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Lyackson, Malahat, and Pauquachin First Nations.

The region covers an area of 3,473 km2 on Vancouver Island between Malahat/Mill Bay and North Oyster. On the western edge of the region is the Pacific Ocean; the Salish Sea sits on the region's eastern border.


How to use the maps

In the sections below, you will find a number of maps to help visualize the CVRD Island Corridor.

This storymap is a visual representation of the following:

In the bottom right corner of the map, you can use the + and - buttons to zoom in and out, and click and drag to move the map. The home button above them will take you back to the original extents of the map. To move around the map click (or tap) and drag.

At the bottom left corner of the map you will find the legend. If it is minimized, you can click (or tap) to open it, or click the X to close it.

At the top left of the map is a search button. Here, you can type in an address to zoom to that location. Here type in the address you're interested in. To return back to the original view of the map, click the home button at the bottom right.


The CVRD Island Corridor

Map 1: Island Corridor with First Nations Reserve Lands 

This map shows the entire Island Corridor. The CVRD portion is identified with the solid black line. This map also includes CVRD First Nations reserve lands.

The Island Rail Corridor is the collection of parcels of lands, including the Victoria Subdivision, the Port Alberni Subdivision, and the Wellcox Spur. The portion within the CVRD is the Victoria Subdivision.

Map 2: Island Corridor with CVRD Bisecting Reserve Lands

CVRD Island Corridor

This map shows the entire Island Corridor. The CVRD portion is identified with the solid black line. This map also includes the CVRD sections of reserve that are bisected by the Island Corridor.

Note the length of the CVRD Island Corridor is 71,780 m of which the bisected reserve lands equal 4,850 m.

Map 3: First Nations Reserve Boundaries

This map shows Indian Reserves (as defined by the Indian Act) of the 10 First Nations with reserve land within the CVRD:

Map 4: First Nation Statement of Intent Boundaries 

The map shows the Statement of Intent Boundaries which identify traditional territories of Modern Treaty Nations and First Nations who have entered the BC treaty negotiations process.   Note that not all First Nations with traditional territory in the CVRD are currently pursuing treaty settlement within the BC Treaty Commission process.

Map 5: CVRD Official Community Plans Land Use Designations 

This map shows the land use designations of the 4 municipalities and the 9 Electoral Areas.

Land use designations illustrate the envisioned use and density of land and guide desired potential future use. Each municipality has its own Official Community Plan. There is one Official Community Plan for all the Electoral Areas.
