Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Week 2022

March 21st - 25th, 2022

March 21st - 25th is Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Week (SWAW). Now is the time to get ready for the myriad of severe weather that we see here in the Cornhusker State. We experienced a variety of severe weather last year, from hail in the Panhandle to December tornadoes in the east. Let's take a look back on some notable severe weather events of 2021.

10 Year Anniversary of North Platte Tornadoes

2022 also marks the 10 year anniversary of the March 18, 2012 North Platte tornadoes, when a strong supercell produced a series of damaging tornadoes on the west side of town. Certainly a day that many in North Platte will not forget, let's go back and revisit the events of that day.

A dry line formed along the High Plains, which became the focal point of storm development on the 18th. Supercell thunderstorms developed along the dry line and moved north through central Nebraska.
