
Analyzing the Almeda Fire
Following the Flames of An Urban Wildfire to Discover How We Can Live In A New Wildfire Era.

The Almeda Fire ignited on September 8, 2020. Spurred by 40-50 mph winds, the fire traveled 13 miles north, through Rogue Valley, to the outskirts of Medford. While the fire burned through fewer than 4,000 acres, it burned more than 2,500 homes in Southern Oregon within 48 hours.
This urban wildfire burned more homes than any other in Oregon's history, but was this urban wildfire a surprise or only a matter of time?
