Te Urumingi Whānau Trust’s development of Paetawa Station project is about providing economic opportunities for the iwi while restoring the land to its former glory. A Provincial Growth Fund Whenua Māori grant of $457,477 was announced in February 2020 for Heeni Investment Company, the commercial arm of Te Urumingi Whānau Trust.
In 2018, Funding was allocated to the development of campsite activities, water catchment building, water tanks and pest control.
Te Morehu Whenua headed to Tawhitinui via jetboat to search for kākahi. Juat north of Moutou Stream the roopu found 6 kākahi amongst the rocks on the Whanganui River. The low numbers of kākahi found is a concern.
Manga it supported the restoration and maintenance of the Orchard there at Te Pou o Rongo.
Whanganui River received a seed-banking drum kit developed as part of a BioHeritage Challenge project focused on developing Māori solutions to fight myrtle rust. A seed-banking drum is a special kit that enables community members to collect, dry and store seeds from local taonga (treasured) plants. Te Mana o Te Awa supported Kimmy Ranginui to attend training to use this tool.
In 2018, The farm was supported to complete a continuation of riparian retirement, fencing, planting, weeding and pest control. Omahuri is a farm located 15kms NE of Whanganui. Location is approx.

This project focused on surveying potential visiting sites for catch and release of Tuna over a two day period. These sites will have nets designated during the catch and release project and are used to track migrations by deployed project teams. The Project teams were supported by scientists Erica Williams (NIWA) and Lan Pham (University of Canterbury).

In 2018, Whanganui leadership and those of the whare wānanga continued to interact and discuss the kaupapa. Efforts were discussed amongst the wānanga kōrero on the 2019 Tira Hoe Waka and in April 2019 at a hui held at Te Ao Hou Marae to discuss the intent and seek agreement from the people. It was agreed initiate (3) wānanga for 2019. The first of which was held at Hiruharama Marae 16/17 May & 16/17 October 2019, hosted by the hapū of Ngāti Hau.
This project aims to support the Hinau tree population and care of for future generations. This aslo includes building capacity in relation to how to use this rongoa. The project is managed by Myles Gembitsky and Jason Taiaroa with support from Pipiriki Inc (use of land) and DOC. The actual location of this parcel of land is situated along the Raetihi-Pipiriki Road.
An eco sanctuary in the tribal rohe of Te Korowai o Wainui a Rua (Tamahaki, Tamakana and Uenuku) region with a focus on biodiversity. The vision is to have the first iwi driven ecosanctuary in Aotearoa. It will be founded upon traditional principles, kawa and knowledge.
Over the 2019/2020 summer period Te Rua Wallace completed a current state analysis for the Ohura catchment. This report highlighted the need to do more mahi in this catchment and to work closer with non iwi organizations to support the collaborative restoration.
