Mill Creek Zanja
Viewing Locations

In the 1800's, the Zanja was an irrigation canal that carried water from Mentone to the Native Americans living in the Guachama Village, currently known as Loma Linda. The 12 mile canal originated in Mentone, where it diverted water from the Mill Creek. The irrigation path traveled through Redlands before feeding into the San Timoteo Creek in Loma Linda.
The eastern half of the Zanja, outlined in blue, has several visible areas, whereas the western half, in red, is now underground. This map focuses on the eastern half and identifies many locations in Mentone and Redlands where you can see the old canal.
