The network of protected areas along the Elbe River

From its spring in Krkonoše National Park in Czechia to the North Sea in Germany

There are six national parks on the Elbe River: Krkonoše, České Švýcarsko, Sächsische Schweiz, Hamburgisches Wattenmeer, Niedersachsen Wattenmeer and Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer.

So called "Masaryk's weir" in the city of Usti nad Labem is one of the major barriers on the Elbe River. Despite the existing fish ladder, the weir is not permeable for many fish and lampreys species. The national goal is to construct a new fish bypass allowing migration of most of the wildlife species.
