Placer County Vote Center Implementation

Placer County is excited to expand voting opportunities for its citizens by implementing vote centers throughout the county.

Vote centers are effectively satellite offices of Placer County Elections, open during days immediately preceding an election. They allow citizens to register to vote, receive a ballot, return their mail ballot, or vote in person.

Depending on their location, vote centers will be open anywhere from four to 11 days, including one to two weekends, allowing citizens more flexibility and opportunity when visiting for services.

In addition to providing earlier and more frequent opportunities to vote in person, vote centers offer eligible voters an easier way to return their vote-by-mail ballots directly to county elections officials. The sooner we have your ballot and envelope, the sooner we can process it and count your ballot and vote as part of the official results as they're released.

Vote centers are required under the California Voters Choice Act (VCA), legislation which permits counties to open locations throughout their county for expanded voter services inline with their population. Approved by the Placer County Board of Supervisors in June 2023, the implementation of VCA in Placer County requires the Placer County Elections Office to take multiple socio-economic and logistical factors into consideration when choosing the locations of both our vote centers and stand-alone ballot drop boxes. The following slides will demonstrate the different aspects that the Elections Office must consider throughout the process.
