Russia vs. Sweden

The Difference of Laws and Policies of Human Rights

Location and Region

Both Sweden and Russia are in Europe, in the upper right corner. They are separated by Finland and both are countries that have severe winters.

Russia Laws

Russia has always been a strict country with strict laws and policies everyone has to follow or they will go to jail. It also has some of the harsh laws and policies, limiting many human rights that other countries have. Many of these laws are:

  • No anti-war speeches
  • Barely any freedom of speech
  • No one can talk badly about the leader
  • No labor unions
  • No private businesses
  • No opposing political parties
  • Anit LGBTQ
  • No citizen movement
  • Private property rights are heavily limited

Ukraine War

A major cause for stricter laws and policies and for the government to push harder on them is because of the recent Ukraine war. Russia is determined to get Ukraine back and they do not want anyone against it. So they became stricter, by:

  • Longer prison sentences for anti-war speeches
  • Authorities are allowed to strip naturalized Russian nationals of their citizenship
  • Increased prosecuted people on bogus treason

Sweden Laws

Sweden is one of the happiest countries in the world because of its care for its people. It became this way of how unlucky they were in the past. They became pacifist and cared for their people. Citizens have:

  • The right of expression
  • Freedom of information
  • Freedom to demonstrate
  • Freedom of assembly

All of this is because of Sweden's taxation. It pays for health care, education, and public transportation. Because of all of this, people are happy and have the right to be who they are. They are not scared to be their selves.

Quick Summary

Russia has stricter Human Right laws because of the war going on and because of it's past, being part of the Soviet Union. It is led by a leader that only does stuff for their own good and wants to rebuild the Soviet Union. While Sweden actually cares about their people. Yes, they are not in a war, but their system and taxation makes sure the people are safe and sure.
