Celebrating and Supporting the Black Community
The City of Brooklyn Park is committed to racial equity.
Brooklyn Park is home to one of the largest and most diverse communities in the Twin Cities metro area. Our community includes over 1,500 businesses, ranging from large multinational corporations to small locally owned shops. Many of these businesses are owned by people of color and are valuable to our city.
Businesses owned by people of color, specifically Black-owned businesses, often experience economic disparities. Discriminatory policies, such as redlining, have denied Black businesses the same financial resources as other businesses. Without access to the same resources, it is more difficult for Black businesses to thrive during times of economic hardship, such as in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Black-owned businesses, especially those in the restaurant, service, and retail industries, have been hit the hardest .
We created this resource to uplift the Black community and have highlighted Black-owned beauty, restaurant, retail, and service businesses in Brooklyn Park. We encourage you to support the Black community by using and sharing this resource!
Featured Businesses
As consumers, where we spend our money is a way to show our support and a form of allyship. When you purchase anything from a Black-owned business, you are supporting the Black community. Not only that, you are helping to create equity by supporting Black economies and increasing the creation of jobs for Black people.
We hope you, your family, and your friends can use this resource as an opportunity to buy Black and support the Black community.
