The University of The Gambia has no single unified campus but it is rather comprised of rented buildings at sites sprinkled around the Greater Banjul area. The Government aims at establishing a centralized campus for the university and to update curricula in order to better meet present market needs. This project will thus expand and upgrade the university to accommodate approximately 3,000 additional students. This will include, among other works:
- Construction of new buildings house a wide range of faculties such as health, science, technology, law and engineering;
- Provision of all infrastructure with equipment and furniture;
- Updating of curricula;
- Provision of training to teaching staff;
- Implementation of capacity building measures for the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology. Information from OPEC Fund

Overview
The new University of The Gambia is to be relocated and established as a new institution consisting of the four existing formal institutions of higher education in The Gambia. The master plan project seeks to relocate and integrate the four institutions into one, to make a new, fully integrated university for 15,000 students.

The Master plan prepares the groundwork to be able to meet the flexible campus design which is based on a “modular” faculty building. The campus “green river” binds the faculties together, ties them to the Faraba Banta and prepares the area for the new urban development.
The new campus will set a standard for environmental issues in The Gambia by seeking environmental suitable solutions for The Gambia, such as the establishment of a solar park to make energy, a power plant to take responsibility for waste management and energy production, and guaranteed clean water through local harvesting and water management.
The Campus area will set a new standard and its environmental profile will be as important as the educational investments in the students that will be the future leaders educated at the UTG.
