Little Seneca Lake

Little Seneca Lake is one of the premier largemouth bass fisheries in the State of Maryland. The park and 500-acre lake are managed by the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the dam and water releases are controlled by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. Fishing is permitted from the shoreline and from permitted or rented boats. Montgomery County Parks operate a boat ramp and a boat rental facility at the lake.
Central Region Staff Conduct a Night Electrofishing Survey on Little Seneca Lake
Gamefish populations in Little Seneca Lake have been managed and monitored by Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Service since the impounding of the lake in 1984. Northern snakehead were first observed in Little Seneca Lake in 2019. During the Spring 2023 survey, 43 northern snakeheads ranging from 249-705mm were observed and euthanized. Northern snakeheads were collected at eleven of the twelve sites sampled in the survey. Channel catfish, bluegill, and black crappie are also targeted by recreation anglers.
