Dr. Rhian-Mari Thomas OBE, Chief Executive of the Green Finance Institute

Thomas is Chief Executive of the  Green Finance Institute , backed by the UK Government and City of London Corporation. Rhian spent 20 years in banking and was awarded an OBE for services to green banking. She is an Emeritus Member of TCFD and co-chair of TNFD, as well as a member of numerous advisory groups and boards across UK Government.

She began her banking career at Barclays Investment Bank in 2000 and spent 10 years in leveraged finance and financial sponsors coverage before holding a succession of leadership roles across Barclays’ Corporate Bank and Barclaycard. Most recently, she was Global Head of Green Banking and Founder and Chair of Barclays’ Green Banking Council, which developed and launched a suite of green finance products and services.

A fluent Welsh speaker, Rhian holds a PhD in Physics from Trinity College.
