Footprints

Empowering collective climate action at the local level

What is Footprints?

Footprints camp is an annual gathering of 15 people passionate about just, community-led climate action.

During camp, expert mentors help campers develop climate projects to implement in their communities.

Last year, we experienced a 100% graduation rate and 5/5 satisfaction score with every camper.

Since 2021, we've been inspiring community-level climate action by holding these camps and providing a holistic suite of educational resources, connections, and ongoing mentorship.

Projects

Community climate action can be many things!

At camp, participants focus on creating or continuing to develop a project that is specific to one or more communities, capable of making a meaningful impact on the lives of people and their environment, and aligned with the values that Footprints holds dear: accessibility, collectivity, compassion, confidence, humility, reciprocity, and resilience.

When participants arrive to camp, their projects can be at any stage of development: from just an idea to an existing organization or career. Camp provides the structure to discover personal motivations and build projects with intention. Why now? What’s realistic? How will you measure success?

We help participants answer these questions and develop a strategic action plan that scopes the work, identifies stakeholders, and charts a clear path forward.

We've found projects generally fit into one or more of these broad categories:

  • Social impact & community
  • Science and environment
  • Arts, media & storytelling
  • Technology and data
  • Education
  • Lifestyle

Mission & Vision

Our Mission

Footprints supports equitable climate resilience by giving individuals the mentorship, network, and self-development opportunities they need to produce collective action at the local level. We curate shared outdoor experiences that create value-aligned community, deepen environmental awareness, and nurture compassionate and confident changemakers.

Founded by trail runners, Footprints strives to make trail running and the outdoors accessible and safe for all people. And we believe that protecting our planet and one another from a changing climate is challenging, humbling, and worthwhile.

Our Vision

We envision a livable and sustainable planet where all people can benefit from, be challenged by, and find awe in the natural world.

Our Impact

Fundraising

We need $50K to bring Footprints to life in 2025.

Last year, we pledged that every camper would have the financial support they needed to attend — and we made it happen. We need your help to do it again! Our $50,000 goal will cover the expenses for this year's camp, including food, lodging, mentorship, supplies, and scholarships.

Where do the funds go?

These accommodations allow us to create the proper environment for our campers to learn and connect.

Food $7,500 to support the entire camp's food needs for seven days and nights. Food is healthy, filling, and sourced sustainably (and often locally).

Education $2,400 to support a mentor's stipend for the week. Mentors are experts in science, business, law, fundraising, community organizing, and more.

Lodging $8,000 to cover all lodging for campers and staff.

Transportation $5,500 to support all transportation during camp. $10K would allow us to financially assist scholarship recipients with their travel.

Tuition $1,000 to support a single camper's tuition for the week. Tuition covers food, lodging, in-camp transportation, supplies, mentorship, and more.

Storytelling $5,000 will allow us to create powerful photo and film stories that capture the camp experience. We're proud to work with Ryan Thrower and Freetrail to create industry-leading content.

Your support helps us support climate justice projects around the world.
