Ugandan Asians: Five decades after expulsion
CTVNews.ca mapped out the journeys of six expelled South Asian families who shared their success stories after arriving in Canada.
But five decades ago, this was not the case.
The expulsion decree forced the exodus of nearly every Ugandan of South Asian descent within 90 days.

He is the first Ismaili Canadian diplomat and the first Muslim born Canadian to be named ambassador. In addition to his Global Affairs Canada roles, he is also a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI).

Mobina Jaffer was born in Kampala, Uganda. Following the expulsion period in Uganda, her father and husband were kidnapped by the Ugandan military. But along with her husband, her family managed to successfully flee the country to London, before finally moving to Vancouver in 1975.
After the expulsion in 1972, Sachedina's family made Vancouver, B.C. their home.

Pratibha Popat
Pratibha Popat's family lived in Kamuli, Uganda since 1954 after they moved from Raval, Gujarat (India). On. Nov. 5 1972, Popat's family arrived in Canada to start their new lives.
