Northern Michigan's April 2021 Climatology

Above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation dominate April across northern Michigan.


• April 3rd to April 12th featured temperatures that varied from 10 to as much as 25 degrees F above normal - largely skewing April's temperatures 1-3 degrees F above normal for the month as a whole. Sault Ste. Marie experienced its 10th warmest April in recorded history, which dates back to 1888.

• Several daily high temperature records were set at various climate sites across northern Michigan during the above normal stretch of temperatures from April 3rd through the 12th, including April 7th an 8th in Traverse City.

• While brief warm-ups were experienced during the second half of the month, the majority of days featured temperatures several degrees below normal.

• Precipitation and snowfall were below normal across the board, although fell short of any top-10 monthly records at all reporting sites.
