Dundee Active Freeways - Perth Road / Hawkhill Corridor

Introduction

Sweco have now completed the feasibility stage of the Perth Road / Hawkhill - Dundee Active Freeways project. The optioneering process of the project allowed a preferred route option to be identified. This is shown in the image below.

For more information on the feasibility stage, please see the Feasibility Stage Summary section of this Storymap.

Concept Stage

Sweco have completed the outline concept design for the proposed active travel upgrades on Hawkhill and are looking for your feedback to inform the finalised concept design.

We firmly believe that a successful project can only be delivered when the needs of those that will use the infrastructure are taken on board. Your input and comments on the proposed scheme are therefore key and will help us shape the proposals.

Note: The concept designs shown within this Storymap are in draft form. Traffic modelling and further public engagement will be carried out in the next design stage in order to confirm the final proposals.

We would appreciate if you could review and complete the survey below. Your feedback will allow us to enhance the concept designs and ensure that the proposals are suitable for all.

Feasibility Stage Summary

During the Feasibility Stage, the potential to implement an Active Freeway linking the communities of Ninewells, West End and Blackness to the City Centre via many key trip attractors was assessed. The image below shows the options that were considered.

A combination of community engagement feedback and results from our route option appraisal allowed us to identify a preferred option. The following displays a summary of the findings:

  • It was not considered feasible to implement a continuous 'Active Freeway' throughout the proposed corridor due to parking and road width constraints between Windsor Street to Ninewells Avenue
  • It was considered possible to implement a fully segregated active travel out through Hawkhill due to the available space
  • An active travel route through Hawkhill would provide links to many key trip attractors and to future developments within the city centre
