It suddenly happened and no one expected it. On August 4, 2020, a huge blast came off the port in Beirut, severely damaging Lebanon's state.

“Beirut was dying slowly”, said Sara Moussa (azhari, 2020) when she was talking about the situation in Beirut. With the port damaged, imported goods became unavailable, (azhari, 2020) and the destruction of pharmacies and hospitals destroyed all available medicine in that radius. (azhari, 2020) Moreover, Zeina Khodor, Aljazeera correspondent, said:” I was kilometers away from Beirut port when the explosion went off. It shook the ground." This shows how big the explosion was.(azhari, 2020)
The catastrophe known as the Beirut explosion affected every aspect of the Lebanese finance terribly and damaged it to bits. According to Moussa and Azhari (2020), around 5,000 Lebanese residents were wounded and the homes of countless Beirut citizens were heavily damaged. All of the people were terrified and worried. They mentioned “it feels like it’s going to be really difficult to come back from this.” (Moussa & Azhari, 2020). Some describe the horrific scenes observed for the fact that “broken glass was found everywhere and, destroyed equipment were shattered all over the place.” (Moussa & Azhari, 2020)

Due to the coronavirus outbreak and the Beirut’s explosion, there was a huge hospital outage in Lebanon. Sara Moussa said, ”It happened during the corona virus lockdown” (Azhari, 2020). Hospitals were quickly occupied and no more patients were able to be treated in proper places. (Azhari,2020). Furthermore, countless Beirut habitants' homes were severely damaged, (Azhari,2020)and people had no place to stay in.

Leading up to the blast, survivors have been identified as having nightmares, hallucinations, as well as an intensified need for mental health consultations, there were signs of depression and anxiety, as well as elevated rates of suicides and calls to suicide hotlines. According to Houssam Shbaro and Chloe Cornish, Lebanon was also dealing with a real-life scenario: a pandemic that was quickly expanding, and families were torn apart by deaths. Also, the people couldn’t bear any more of the government’s incompetence and indifference as people’s mental wellbeing was jeopardized, because hospitals lacked sufficient space, as stated by Wehbi and Firas Alaw.

The explosion was massive, it caused a lot of deaths and injuries to be recorded. Due to the blast,150 deaths were recorded (Azhari, 2020) and 5000 people were injured (Azhari, 2020). According to a witness that was close to the explosion, she said: "I was thrown to the ground” (Azhari, 2020) moreover, Aljazeera correspondent Timour Azhari, the person who went to the hospitals to check on the situation and meet families said, “A Family was informed that their relative man had died”. (Azhari, 2020) Timour was really affected by what he saw.
