The insurance sector in Ghana has been experiencing growth and transformation driven by regulatory reforms.

🚩 INTRODUCTION
Ghana is a culturally diverse country in West Africa, with an estimated population of more than 32m. 1 The country occupies an area of 238,535 km2 (92,099 m2) 2 and its topography ranges from coastal savannas to tropical rainforests and sandy beaches. The country is also home to the world’s largest artificial reservoir. 3
- The population growth of Ghana has been on a downward trend for the last decade and was estimated at 1.9% in 2022. 4
- While mobile money account ownership grew from 39% in 2017 to 60% in 2021, a gender gap exists with 65% of males owning accounts compared to 55% of females.
- In 2020, Ghana launched a Digital Financial Services (DFS) Policy to create a resilient, inclusive and innovative digital ecosystem in the country. 5
- The agriculture sector in Ghana employed 39% of the total labour force in 2021. 6 Cocoa production is a major contributor to the country's export earnings.
- The insurance industry is governed by the Insurance Act of 2021. It promotes gender balance by requiring that, at least one of the two people the President of the republic of Ghana must appoint to the National Insurance Commission (NIC)’s Governing Body, should be a woman.
