What were the terrorist attacks on 9/11?

On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center towers were destroyed due to terrorist attacks known as "9/11." Planes were hijacked and crashed into the Twin Towers as well as the Pentagon. Flight 93 was also a plane that was hijacked leading to a fatal crash. The coordinated attacks were carried out by an Islamist extremist group called al-Qaeda. The terrorist attacks were a technological hazard resulting in a devastating impact.

What were the components of this hazard?

The physical component of this hazard was mainly the hijacking of the planes. This factor greatly impacted the amount of damage that was caused by the event. The event took place quickly, and within hours, many were injured and thousands of lives were taken. The spatial components of the hazard were clearly linked to the terrorists' motives. Both the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were symbolic of America's power and prosperity.
