Upon joining Woolpert, I started out as a Phase Manager in Aviation Geospatial. That means very little to the uninitiated. A phase manager manages the budget of the phases (or pieces of the project), ensuring we are on time and on budget while also assisting the Project Manager whenever necessary. I managed the photogrammetry phases. I was not doing much technical work, but I was ensuring the technical work could be done by assisting with project plans. My first airport was Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority - Dulles and Reagan airports along with a corridor. This was a special project because we had to degrade imagery over the White House. The project earned me a call from the Secret Service and I had to explain both orthophotography and lidar to them.

Managed Airports

I managed over 40 airport projects in the year I was an Aviation Phase Manager, passing 20 off to a coworker when I transitioned into Government Solutions Phase Management. Same job title, just different section of the company. But I did not stay there long before I became the Quality Control Team Lead.

Quality Control Team Lead

As Quality Control Team Lead, I manage four team members' workload. My team is responsible for writing metadata and preparing final deliverables. We primarily work on orthoimagery and lidar projects, but we have written metadata for remote sensing and data development (compilation) projects too. Because my team is smaller, I also manage our QC phases.

Some of the noteworthy projects on which we function are:

  • Statewide Imagery Programs for both Ohio and Indiana: imagery collection for an entire state over the course of several years. Counties and cities are given the chance to buy up to higher resolution or additional products (remote sensing analysis, compiled features, lidar).
  • USGS GPS3 contract - primarily 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) where datasets are created to meet the USGS Lidar Base Specification projects.
  • North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) - a lidar and imagery program covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
  • Weyerhaeuser - a lidar and imagery program to power tree analysis.
