Regional Health Impacts

The U.S Northeast region is comprised of twelve states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, West Virginia, and Vermont.

The Northeast region faces multiple health effects from climate change, including:

Temperature-related death and illness
Extreme weather events
Water-borne illness
Poor food safety and access to nutritious food
Poor mental health

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, older adults, people of low-income, people with limited social connectivity, people with existing medical conditions, and recent immigrants are more susceptible to climate risks in this region.
