OpenIndexMaps of the Mississippi River
U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Records
The first set of maps georeferenced and turned into OpenIndexMaps were produced by members of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. The first portion covers Lake Itasca to St. Anthony Falls (made in 1881), while the second portion covers St. Anthony Falls to the Illinois River Junction.
Mississippi River Commission Records
This collection consists of charts created by the United States Mississippi River Commission. This collection consists of two records, one stretching from the mouth of the Ohio River to Minneapolis, MN, while the second covers Minneapolis to Lake Itasca. Each part consists of two volumes. Charts were drawn produced between 1876 to 1904.
Due to a reference map not being provided for volume 1 of "Detail map of the Upper Mississippi River from the mouth of the Ohio River to Minneapolis, Minnesota", an OpenIndexMap was not created for that record. In addition, volume 2 also is missing numerous charts resulting in the visible gaps along the river.
