Ngaaruawaahia Structure Plan Assessment

This Storymap has been developed to provide a high level overview of the potential stormwater mitigation solutions proposed within Ngaaruawaahia.

The solutions have been identified by building on the work completed within the 2024 Ngaaruawaahia Structure Plan and undertaking a range of technical assessments to identify key issues and opportunities across the town.

The solutions aim to improve the water quality, level of service (LOS), flood risk and ecological health of the town, while also considering how to manage growth and density plan changes that are currently underway.

A Structure Plan is a guiding framework for the development or redevelopment of an area that will help define the future development and land use patterns, areas of open space, the layout and nature of infrastructure (including transportation links), constraints and key features that influence the effects of development are also considered and managed. This assessment addresses risks and opportunities in relation to waterways, flood risk and stormwater infrastructure

The following technical assessments were undertaken to identify issues and opportunities relating to stormwater across Ngaaruawaahia

• Contaminant Risk Assessment
• Erosion Assessment
• Pipe Capacity Assessment
• Flooding

Utilising the findings from the technical assessments outlined above, in addition to key infrastructure outputs identified through the 2023 structure plan process, a range of stormwater improvement opportunities have been identified across Ngaaruawaahia.
