LUCky to be an intern - A year later...
Let me regale you with tales of an intern at LUC
My lovely mugshot (thanks marketing team!)
Back in the summer of '19, I began my internship with LUC. This was originally over the school holidays, while I took leave from my masters studies at Bristol University, in Environmental Policy and Management (but have since stayed!).
It was all systems go from the off, transferring some of my newly found academic insights into the workplace, but for the most part learning on the job.
With a friendly, helpful and engaging team, learning more complex geoprocessing became seamless, and after nearly a year, I continue to learn new things every week.
Here is my first go at a ZTV for a site development at Wilbury Hills.

While my knowledge in Arc in its various guises has strengthened, I’ve also been encouraged to explore new forms of data and what that entails for landscape management in the face of a changing climate.
This is in addition to regular python training, and other training sessions from Photoshop editing, database creation and beyond. The culture of learning here is really to be applauded.
Here is my first go at rendering some 3D imaging using Scene.

one of my first goes at a Phase 1 habitat map...

Here's a more recent map I made for a Landscape Character Assessment. Getting a little more complex!
... and playing around with the VR.
I was also fortunate enough to be assigned to the Corporate Social Responsibility inception team, which was a fascinating experience. All members demonstrated a clear desire for meaningful action – not a diluted bureaucratic exercise of industry compliance.
Sitting next to all levels of employees, starting with the MD and all below, my opinions were listened to, respected and employed, which only further demonstrated to me that LUC is a company that listens and encourages participation from its staff.
Here is some of the Manchester office taking part in the Shelter Sleepwalk, they raised just under £700! A small slice of some of the great work we do outside of the office!
While the professional environment is one that continues to be accommodating and inspiring, the social is equally as great.
Whether it is staying up past nine with one of Bristol’s best views, desperately trying to act out Theresa May playing croquet, kill the villagers with my other wolf compadre, or enjoy a throw back to Street Fighter on the Super Nintendo.
In short, my time here has been wonderful thanks to a great team. I very much look forward to a future at LUC
(Here's our Christmas fancy dress party and karaoke! It's for the best I haven't uploaded audio)
