Life On The Move
Throughout her short life, Addie Brown moved relentlessly between four cities seeking work - Hartford, Farmington, Waterbury, New York City, and Philadelphia. She often relocated several times a year, her shortest stay being just six days. Brown never remained in one place for more than a few years.
Based on her patterns of mobility, Brown had unique relationships with each of these cities. She moved to Hartford four different times, more than any other city. She also relocated to Waterbury twice, New York City twice, Farmington twice, and Philadelphia twice.
Brown also lived in each city for different durations of time. She lived in both Hartford and Philadelphia for close to a decade each. Brown spent a total of five years in New York City and just over one year in Waterbury. Despite moving to Farmington on two different occasions, she spent a total of just eight months in the city.
Philadelphia to Hartford
Sometime between 1841 and 1859, Brown moved from her home city of Philadelphia to Hartford.
