This project is funded by SUSTRANS "Places for Everyone" initiative and is being undertaken by the Ayrshire Roads Alliance.
The detailed general arrangement drawings for the scheme are available to view here:

Scheme Outline
Harling Drive to Marr College Pedestrian Crossing
The proposed scheme continues from the works under construction on Harling Drive and heads east along the Troon Links Golf Club boundary, parallel to Dundonald Road until it reaches the signalised crossing. The route then uses the signalised crossing to reach the north side of Dundonald Road.
This section will consist of a segregated 2m footpath and 3m cycleway which will compliment the existing footway running along the south side of Dundonald Road.
Pedestrian Crossing to North of Marr Playing Fields
A new segregated active travel corridor will connect the pedestrian crossing on Dundonald Road to the north side of the Marr Playing Fields. The route will run along the north side of Dundonald Road before turning into the playing fields and run on the west side of the existing tree line and will include a 3m bi-directional cycleway and a 2m footway segregated by a 300mm wide kerb.
This section will also include an upgraded connection to the east entrance to Marr College.
Playing Fields to North Drive
Once the route leaves the playing fields, it crosses the existing structure that carries pedestrians over the Darley Burn. From there, the route flows round the back of the residential properties situated beside Muirhead Primary School.
The route then meets Burns Road where the bi-directional cycleway runs alongside the carriageway separated by a 500mm kerb buffer. The footway will be relocated to the outside edge of the cycleway. The route continues with this cross section as Burns Road meets Buchan Road. The scheme then terminates as it meets North Drive.
Placemaking
In addition to the improvement of active travel between Loans and Troon, this scheme also provides placemaking opportunities with two seating areas, one overlooking the Troon Links Golf Club and another with a view of the Marr College playing fields.
The installation of this infrastructure provides public spaces for local communities which will promote engagement and improve health & well-being.

Sustainability
The introduction of an active travel corridor between Loans and Troon will give the area the possibility of reducing the reliance on motorised vehicles for local journeys. In turn, this should improve air pollution and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The scheme is also currently being design to use the most sustainable materials available.
In addition, active travel can bring significant benefits in relation to public health.
Construction
The timetable for construction will be determined at that the next stage. Construction will be carried out in a manner that will minimise disruption to the environment, road users and residents.
Key construction features will include:
- Environmental mitigation measures will be incorporated during the construction phase;
- The movement of construction plant will be planned to minimise disruption;
- The majority of the scheme is offline and therefore we would anticipate very minimal disruption to existing traffic movements.
