The Patterson-Gimlin Film helped spark an interest in proving the existence of Bigfoot in North America, and helped move Bigfoot into popular culture with some cities having Bigfoot Festivals (such as the Smoky Mountain Bigfoot Festival in Townsend, TN.) to TV shows such as "Finding Bigfoot" and "MonsterQuest" as well as movies such as the 1987 Bigfoot movie "Harry and the Hendersons".
Similar reports of these "Relic Hominids" appear in other regions of the world as well. Th The Yeti of the Himayalas whom many sherpa guides have reported encounters with, as well as large bare footprints being found on the slopes of Mt. Everset. The Orang-Pendek of Indonesia, who some Bigfoot researchers believe may be an extant species of the "hobbit" (Homo floresiensis) discovered in 2003; a roughly four foot hominid that lived on the island of Flores, Indonesia up to roughly 13,000 years ago.

The area around Mount Saint Helens has long been a hotspot of Bigfoot activity, with reports dating back to before the 1924 Ape Canyon Incident. Gifford Pinchot National Forest itself has often been searched by Bigfoot researchers, the area was the focus of the Finding Bigfoot episode "Frozen Bigfoot" (Season 1, Episode 5) where a picture reportedly showed an adult Bigfoot on a mountain captured by a snowshoer. One region of Gifford Pinchot National Forest, the Dark Divide, drew author Robert Michael Pyle to the area in his 1995 narrative exploration of the area "Where Bigfoot Walks: Crossing the Dark Divide" after he discovered a large fossil footprint believed to have been made by a Bigfoot.
While some reports do turn out to be hoaxes, those are not reported by the BFRO. Whether the species exists is up to you to decide, or until a living or dead specimen is found and revealed to the world.
