SASSIE Airborne Campaign

Sensing salt from skies... weather permitting

The term "weather permitting" has a lot of meaning when your goal is to collect data high over the Beaufort Sea. Why? Clear skies are uncommon in this region, even during the summer. The NASA team supporting SASSIE's airborne campaign has been preparing for this adventure of a lifetime for months. Now their day-to-day routine involves watching the weather from their base in Deadhorse, Alaska and coordinating operations with their SASSIE teammates onboard the ocean research vessel, Woldstad.
