Zac Weisel
Vice-President, Gunnin Land Surveying
I was born in South Bend, Indiana, moved to North Georgia at a young age, and have lived here most of my life.
I started at my current company, Gunnin Land Surveying, in high school and have been an employee ever since. I began as a field technician and moved through the ranks over the last 10 years. The roles I have held are Crew Chief, AutoCAD Technician, Project Manager, and now Vice President. During a large portion of my time at Gunnin Land Surveying, I attended KSU and earned my BS in Surveying and Mapping in 2017. Since graduation, I have also obtained licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor in Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
In my current role I assist with a multitude of tasks and goals for the company. These include preparing proposals and obtaining new work, assigning and tracking project progress, assisting with the research, adjustment, and resolution of boundary surveys, and focusing on general business aspects in an effort to streamline our company procedures and ensure productive workflow.
My Achievements and Projects:
Assisted in establishing our company’s ability to produce deliverables using aerial photogrammetry. This started with a group of three employees attending training on how to safely operate a drone and how to accurately obtain and process the photogrammetric data.

Once we had the basis for operation and processing, we established company procedure for safe planning and accurate execution of our drone flights. We have also learned a lot along the way about how to strategically place targets on site and ensure that our data is being accurately tested versus field conditions.
As a company, we are now able to fly anything from 1 to 300 acres and accurately produce contours, orthometric images, linework, and digital surface models for our clients.
“Aria”- Located in Sandy Springs, the development consists of over 100 acres spanning across Glenridge Drive and Abernathy Road. This development hosts the new headquarters for Mercedes-Benz USA, a 5- story mixed use apartment building, and over 500 residential units built by Ashton Woods Homes (townhomes and single family lots). I was fortunate to have managed most of the construction layout, as-builts, detailed right of way improvements for (almost a mile of multi-lane roadway), and final platting in the majority of the development phases.
The latest work on this site included a highly detailed ALTA/NSPS of the completed apartment building, “Alastair at Aria Village”. The survey included detailed building locations, remotely sensed building heights, underground utility locations, parking counts, aerial photography and more. Given the highly detailed improvement locations and ability to use the drone to assist in our depiction of the site, our team really enjoyed working on this survey.
“Sandy Plains Marketplace”- Featuring multiple restaurants, retail shops, and now the first “Greenwise Marketplace” in Georgia, Sandy Plains Marketplace was a flagship site to represent our company’s ability to handle large scale commercial layout. As manager for this project, I headed up the team’s effort in all construction layout for the site. This included staking sewer, water, walls, curbing and over 120 storm structures. The amount of underground utilities posed an interesting challenge in volume alone.
Our team also prepared as-built surveys of the entire underground system after installation and addressed all county comments for approval. The final stage that we took part in was the building portion of the site. Our team effectively staked, verified footings, and pinned accurate corners for the six large buildings on site that now hold the multitude of occupied shops.
My Personal Info and hobbies:
My wife, Jaqueline, and I currently live in Canton and have two very spoiled dogs, Waylon and Kennedy.
In our free time we like to take walks, cook, listen to music, and travel. Some recent trips we have taken were to Rome, Italy and a road trip from Denver to Las Vegas. We hope to visit travel more when the pandemic has subsided. In our free time we like to take walks, cook, listen to music, and travel.
