AFYON’S HISTORY AND LOCATION
It has been the cradle of many civilizations since 7000 BC until today. It is known that Hittite, Phrygian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Selcuk and Ottoman civilizations have ruled in Afyonkarahisar since this period.

AFYON’S GEOMORPHOLOGY
The most striking feature in terms of geomorphology in Afyonkarahisar is the mountainous areas and the arable alluvial plains located in different stretches and widths between these mountainous areas. Some of the mountainous areas are volcanic and the altitude of the mountainous areas between1600 m to 2600 m. Plains and mountains follow each other. Half of the province is mountains and the other half is plateaus and plains. Terrestrial climate conditions are effective in the province of Afyonkarahisar. Although the province is located within the borders of the Aegean Region, it does not show similarities with this region in terms of climate because it is far from the sea and its altitude is high. (1021 m) There are also forest communities next to the Steppe. 21% of Afyonkarahisar province is covered with forests.

SULTAN MOUNTAIN
This mountain, which is 2519 meters high, takes its name from the district it bears.

KUMALAR MOUNTAIN
The importance of this mountain, which has a height of 2447 meters, is that the War of Independence started here.

EMİR MOUNTAIN
These mountains, with a height of 2307 meters, are between Bolvadin district and Emirdağ district, which it named.

ACIGÖL
20 square kilometers is within the borders of Afyon. It is 842 meters above sea level. The lake feeds the waters descending from the Söğüt Mountains.

EBER LAKE
It is located within the borders of Çay and Bolvadin districts of opium, fed by the spring waters from Akarçay and Sultandağ and is a 1st degree natural protected area.

AKŞEHİR LAKE
Akşehir Lake, like Eber Lake, is located in the depression area between the Sultan mountains and the Emir Mountain. It is a lake located in Central Anatolia Region next to Akşehir district.

EMRE LAKE
It is the smallest naturally formed lake within the borders of Afyonkarahisar. It is between the Other Town of İhsaniye District and the Bayramaliler Village.

KARAMIK SWAMP LAKE
Karamık Marshes are located in the Akarçay Closed Basin, on the northwestern skirts of the Sultan Mountains.

SEYİTLER DAM
Seyitler Dam is a dam built between 1960 and 1964 for irrigation purposes on Seyitler Stream in the province of Afyonkarahisar.

AKDAĞ NATURE PARK
Akdağ Nature Park; It is located within the borders of Sandıklı district of Afyonkarahisar province on the Afyonkarahisar-Antalya road route and is 92 km away from Afyonkarahisar.

26 AGUSTOS NATURE PARK
It is located within the borders of Sinanpaşa district of Afyonkarahisar province; The total area of the field is 64.83 ha.Nature Park is located at Afyonkarahisar – İzmir-Antalya road junction and 16 km from Afyonkarahisar.

THE HISTORICAL NATIONAL PARK OF BASKOMUTAN
The Historical National Park of Başkomutan consists of two main parts: Athos and Dumlupinar. Historic battlefields in the National Park extend to the east-facing slopes of the Murat Mountains. The face measurement of the park is 348,340 decars. It is located within the borders of Uşak , Kütahya and Afyon provinces.

FRİG VALLEY NATURE PARK
Frig Valley Nature Park ,Afyonkarahisar Province, İs Located Within The Borders Of Ihsaniye District; The Total Area Of The Field İs 54,756 Ha.

DANDİNDERE NATURE RESERVE
Afyonkarahisar province, 30 km from Emirdag district is located in the south-east of the district, covers an area of 260 hectares along a ridge with an altitude of about 1,500 and following a stream below.
