The Establishment of the Railroad Quiet Zone - Phase 1

The City of Bryan has analyzed the existing crossings and designed medians that control traffic flow at the railroad crossings. These improvements have been reviewed and approved by Union Pacific Railroad.

Construction of Phase 1 began Fall 2021. The contractor, Brazos Paving Inc (BPI), began by going through each intersection to install the medians and sidewalks outside the railroad right-of-way (ROW). Additional permitting must be received from Union Pacific Railroad to allow BPI to go back through the sequence to install the medians and sidewalks within the railroad ROW. Until accepted by the railroad, sidewalks across the tracks will remain closed.

Construction Sequence & Schedule

Update as of 8/16/2022 - UPRR is finalizing the Contractor Right-of-Entry (CROE) permits to allow the work within the ROW to be completed at 32nd & Main, 28th, 26th, WJB Pkwy, and 23rd. We are still awaiting authorizations and license agreements for 29th, 24th, MLK, and 15th. The permanent closure of 22nd Street is currently being considered.

Update as of 11/4/2021 - As of November 4th, 2021 the following crossings have the portions of the medians outside the rail road right-of-way completed: 29th, 28th, 26th, 24th, 23rd, MLK, and 15th. Due to delays by Union Pacific, the necessary agreements to allow work within the ROW have not been received. The construction of these segments will commence once UPRR completes these agreements. The duration of the delay is unknown at this time. For more information, click the link below.
