Project Background
The concept study will recommend improvements in the Columbia Village area, including Yamhill Road, Lake Forest Drive, Grand Forest Drive, Eastgate Drive, and Holcomb Road. The concept study highlights the improvement options that ACHD could implement to accomplish the project purpose. The options were identified based on public input.

This concept study will identify:
- Safe and inviting pedestrian and bicycle facilities that provide a low-stress alternative to surrounding major roadways.
- Necessary wayfinding signage along neighborhood streets to help guide people riding bicycles and pedestrians walking to the area’s main destinations.
- Enhancements at intersection crossings to make it easier for people riding bicycles and pedestrians walking along the corridor.
- Emphasize the presence of the Columbia Village bikeway as a bicycle-friendly corridor.
- Upgrade existing pedestrian infrastructure to comply with current standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Complete the pedestrian network by adding sidewalk to fill existing gap.
What We Heard
A community survey conducted in March 2022 gathered input on what improvements are needed in the Columbia Village neighborhood. The following are a brief summary of input received:
- Many respondents indicated that bicycle improvements were needed, specifically at the intersections of Amity Road/Federal Way and Amity Road/Holcomb Road.
- Many respondents commented that crossing improvements were needed on Lake Forest Drive/Quamash Way, Grand Forest Drive/Quamash Way, and Lake Forest Drive/Mimosa Way.
- Several comments expressed a need for crossing improvements at Lake Forest Drive in front of the Columbia Village Recreation facility. Many expressed a need for a crosswalk here.
- Pedestrian improvements were suggested at the intersection of Holcomb Road and Amity Road in addition to comments about lighting and narrow pathways on the North side of Amity Road.
- Several respondents indicated a need for improvements related to traffic calming and pedestrian crossings around the Simplot Sports Complex.
