Length:
- The return journey from Paengaroa to Okere Falls is about 62km (approx. four hours), or approximately 12km from Ridge Road Reserve to Okere Falls (30 minutes).
- A suggested initial ride for fitter rides who like riding uphill is to start from Paengaroa, get picked up by car at the Okere Falls Store and driven back to Paengaroa.
About this track:
- The trail to Rotorua forms part of the Bay of Plenty's network of cycle trails and the New Zealand Cycle Trail network. The trail moves through beautiful native bush from Paengaroa into the lakes area North of Okere, with cyclists able to cycle into Okere and, in the future, to Rotorua, or back to Papamoa.
- The trail has a gravel surface for about 10 kilometres with stunning views to the offshore islands and Bay of Plenty coast. Along the way are the Paengaroa cafes, the Comvita Visitor Centre, with onward options to Papamoa Beach or Maketu.
What’s to see along the way?
- There are great cafes at Paengaroa (including at Comvita) and Okere Falls beside Lake Rotoiti
- This is a country ride of varied terrain and includes native bush, kiwifruit orchards, farms, lake and sea views.
Is this track shared with horse riders?
Horses are not permitted on the Paengaroa to Rotoiti trail. The main reason is that part of the trail is on Department of Conservation land and horses are not allowed in these areas.
