NGCSD History

1965:

A majority of voters within the proposed Payson Sanitary District Boundary petition the Gila County Board of Supervisors to establish the new "Payson Sanitary District". The Gila County Board of Supervisors determine the Payson Sanitary District is "...necessary and that the public health, comfort, convenience, necessity, and welfare will be promoted by establishment of the District...". The formal order is passed by the Board of Supervisors.

1965-1972

In 1972, the original wastewater treatment plant was completed. This wastewater treatment plant was located at the site of the present day wastewater treatment plant. In fact, a portion of the original treatment plant is still in operation today, thought for a different purpose than originally used for.

1972 - 1984

Rapid growth experienced in the 70′s soon began to overtax the existing facilities. After receiving overwhelming support from the community, the District began construction on a unique process and facility expansion in 1983 which was fully operational in mid-1984.
