2010 - 2019 Coastal Canopy Assessments and Change Analysis

Chatham County, the 5th oldest county in the State of Georgia (and the largest county outside of the Atlanta metropolitan area), is an idyllic riverfront community containing the beautiful and international city of Savannah and the 3 crystal clear miles of uninterrupted public beach at Tybee Island. Over the span of nine years from 2010 to 2019, the county has witnessed fluctuations in canopy coverage, experiencing both losses and gains. The primary areas of canopy loss include new development, while growth on timber lands contribute to the majority of gains.
