Advocacy Network Map

NetworkPeninsula Advocacy Network Map

This is a map of the advocacy network among nonprofit organizations on the Virginia Peninsula. In 2023, graduate students from the College of William and Mary surveyed over 100 of NetworkPeninsula's nonprofit members. The survey prompted respondents to identify organizations they collaborated with (i.e., referral of services, advocacy/awareness, and partnerships in services). They received approximately 40 completed surveys. The answers from these surveys are represented in the network visualization above, and this map specifically focuses on advocacy relationships. Not all organizations displayed in the map are members of NetworkPeninsula, as respondents were asked to provide names of any organization they collaborated with, regardless of affiliation to NetworkPeninsula. The ties between organizations are reciprocal because of the two-way nature of collaboration initiatives in advocacy partnerships.

Service Area Definitions:

  • Health & Well-Being: Healthcare, Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Recreation and Sports
  • Education, Youth Development, and Training: Children and Youth, Education and Literacy, Schools and Institutions, Employment Services and Training
  • Human Services: Housing and Homelessness, Hunger and Food Access, Seniors and Elderly Care, Disabled/Special Needs Populations
  • Safety & Protective Services: Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Victims, Crime Prevention and Public Safety, Immigration
  • Public Services: Community Development, Transportation, Civic Engagement, Military and Veterans
