Getting Started with Survey123

Accessing ArcGIS Online

  1. In a web browser (preferably Chrome or Firefox), go to  Smith College's ArcGIS Online 
  2. Click Sign In
  3. Click on Smith College Spatial Analysis Lab, and use your credentials

Creating a survey

  1. On the top ribbon of your ArcGIS Online page, click on the App Launcher icon and select  Survey123 
  2. On the Survey123 page, click Create a New Survey
  3. Choose Using the Web Designer by clicking Get Started
  4. Name the survey, add  tags , and write a summary. Click Create

Using the web designer

  1. Drag your desired question type from the right panel to the workspace
  2. You should include a Map question type
  3. Edit the details of each question by clicking on its block. To remove a question, click on the block and options will appear on the lower right corner to delete ("X")

Publishing a survey

  1. Once you're finished adding questions and formatting (including Appearance and Settings), on the bottom of the right panel, click Save
  2. You can Preview how your survey displays on a desktop or mobile
  3. Publish your survey
  4. If you make any additional changes, be sure you Save & Publish again

Sharing a survey to capture data

  1. In order to share the survey, click Collaborate on the ribbon at the top of the page. Select the appropriate option for who can submit data to this survey. There is also an option under the Viewer tab on the left hand side to change who can view what data from the survey.
  2. Click Save, and you can share the URL to the survey under Link
  3. In order to view the data you’ve collected, click Data on the ribbon at the top of the page. The Analyze tab will visualize the collected data

    Creating a web map with survey data

    1. Click into the Item Description for the fieldworker file, and configure Settings - the default setting is so that not everyone can see all the data
    2. Open in Map Viewer to create a new map
    3. In Contents, click on your layer and expand under "..." to set the Refresh Interval
    4. Save your map by inputting a title and tags
