Queensland Thunderstorms Affecting Communities
Relentless storms lash Queensland's south-east, causing emotional strain as floods disrupt daily life. The Bureau of Meteorology warns of further heavy rain, raising fears of flash flooding. Rescues are underway in inundated areas, with evacuations in towns like Laidley. Cleanup efforts are hindered as landslips and fallen trees compound issues. In the north-west, ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily exacerbates flooding, leaving properties isolated and power outages persisting.
Gaza Strip
The recent drone attack on a base in eastern Syria, killing six Kurdish fighters, marks a significant event since the US launched strikes against Iran-backed militias. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to the Middle East aims to push for a ceasefire proposal and address humanitarian concerns in Gaza. Israeli military operations in Gaza persist, amid reports of civilian casualties and detention of hospital staff. Additionally, Spain pledges additional aid to UNRWA, while Russia summons Israel's ambassador over diplomatic remarks.
Ukraine And Russian War
Russian forces suffered significant losses in heavy weaponry during a particularly devastating day of their war on Ukraine. On Saturday, they lost at least 54 vehicles and damaged 16 others, marking one of the worst days for Moscow since the conflict began. In contrast, Ukrainian losses were comparatively light, with nine vehicles destroyed and 21 damaged. The notable aspect of Russia's losses was the high number of tanks and fighting vehicles, highlighting potential sustainability issues for the Kremlin's military campaign.
Ukraine And Russian War (Part 2)
Analysts suggest that Russia's reliance on older Cold War-era vehicles, combined with escalating loss rates, could deplete their reserves much faster than anticipated. Despite challenges such as aid cutoffs and opposition from neighbouring countries, Ukrainian forces continue to resist effectively, inflicting on Russian forces without conceding substantial territory. This news was located on the frontlines of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, particularly around the Avdiivka sector.
